![]() Here is a pic of the temporary installation just to checkout the requirements for putting it on the tower. I learned alot from this practice installation. This unit was completely assembled when I got it as pictured on the left. Basically I had to disassemble it about 75% in order to get it on the tower. 1. First thing I did was change out the indicator pot. Gary, K4VT had suggested this, because he thought it would be a real big job doing it on the tower. Once I did it, I understood, that he was right--boy, you can't beat experience, thanks Gary. 2. The RR should be install approximately in the middle between the runs. I initially tried to installed on the top of a run but the gear box would not fit around the "Z" bar. Once I moved it up to the middle that problem went away. 3. The tower leg clamps should be used to position the RR support leggs. They help hold two leggs in place until the final legg is bolted in place. I tried using the 2 x 4s but they really did not work to well. 4. Had to disassemble one side of the ring to get it around the tower. Once around the tower, I placed that side back on the ring. Had a good bit of trouble getting the ring to fit to the turning gear. Tried a couple of things but what I finally decided was that one of the rollers and bearing had to come off. I took the one off at the gear box. Then I was able to tilt the ring up to slip it in and around the drive gear without any problem. OK, this practice installation is a little crooked in the picture but will level up without any problem. This exercise was a learning experience. I did all of this while standing squarely on the ground. I suspect that the difficulty will be compounded much more when the RR goes to 65' We will see in a few weeks! |
